About Us

ArtWork Enterprises is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has operated continually since 1991 in the southern Oregon region.

Finances

Most of our operating capital comes from ticket sales. To support the cost of duplicating scripts submitted to the ANPF (our largest annual expense), we require that ANPF playwrights balance that expense at the time of their play submission. (click here for details) Our donors and supporters are another reliable source of revenue. In 2007 we applied for our first City of Ashland grant and were rewarded for the effort.

Looking forward, we are planning to apply for additional grants to support the expansion of our programs into southern Oregon high schools. We are also engaging in our first-ever advertising sales campaign.

Board of Directors

Our board is composed of community members—many of whom are involved with the performing arts in their daily work. Though AWE has no paid staff, our board and volunteers work hard to keep the organization moving forward and achieving great things.

John H. Lee, president
After a Silicon Valley career that mostly kept him in Hollywood, John moved to the Ashland area in 2004. Having worked for companies such as Microsoft and Cisco Systems, he brings AWE many years of marketing and technical experience. Though he recently began a new hi-tech venture, he is also the AWE board's president-elect. Raised in West Virginia, he was educated in Denmark, Kentucky, and California. He brings with him a love for theatre—an interest that was nurtured through participation in his hometown as well as his stint as producer of the UC Berkeley Bear Stage Musicals. John volunteered for the 2007 ANPF Readers Committee and joined the board the same year.

Janet Rodkey, past president
Janet was with AWE for three years, two of which as president. Her term as board president ended in January 2008. Though no longer a member of our board, she will assist the ANPF Readers Committee. She has a background in theater education and is currently pursuing arts education opportunities in the Rogue Valley.

Dolores Marx, treasurer
AWE treasurer for more than five years, Dolores has been with the organization since its inception, apart from a short break. She also chairs our Box Office Committee. With a master's degree in library science, Dolores worked as a librarian for more than 25 years and has been a substitute reference librarian at the Ashland Library. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1991 after retiring as district librarian in La Mesa, California. While living in the southlands, Dolores worked with a San Diego community theatre as box office manager and served on the board of Lamp Lighters Theatre in La Mesa. Once in Ashland, she became a founding member of Ashland Community Theatre and served in many capacities, including box office and secretary/treasurer, and she supported each production by helping with programs, tickets, and the like. She currently is box office manager for Oregon Stage Works.

Amanda Berkeley
Amanda was born in New York City, attended Cornell University, and graduated from CCNY in Manhattan, so a love of theatre comes with that territory. She and her husband spent 30 years in Monterey, California during which time she worked as Official Court Reporter for the Monterey County Superior Court. The Berkeleys retired to Talent, Oregon in June of 2006. A stained glass artist for 13 years, Amanda has a permanent exhibit at the Ashland Artisan Gallery in downtown Ashland and also at the ModernStainedGlassArt.com website. She volunteers with the Ashland Independent Film Festival and frequently uses her court reporting skills to take verbatim notes for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival..

Richard Moeschl
As the entertainment editor for both the Medford Mail-Tribune and the Ashland Daily Tidings, Richard holds an important position in southern Oregon. As a board member, he brings his expertise in both publicity and play-writing to bear. He won the prestigious Oregon Book Award for his play “Arthur’s Dreams” in 2006, which was produced at Oregon Stage Works and directed by Paul Roland.

Elizabeth von Radics
Elizabeth is a professional copyeditor of college textbooks and two national magazines. A Rogue Valley resident since 1991, she relocated here from the San Francisco Bay Area, where she worked in print production and publishing. She holds master’s degrees in English and communications from San Francisco State University. With her husband, Eric, she is a co-owner of Musichead, a local music store and venue. Their two teenage daughters are very active in theatre. Elizabeth is currently the president of the Oregon Conservatory of Performing Arts, the Rogue Valley’s oldest year-round theatre school for youth. She has been on the AWE board of since early 2006 and helps produce the AWE newsletter and other publications.

David Walper
Working for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, David should have enough theatre in his life. Apparently not, though, as he heads the AWE Play Selection Committee and chairs the ANPF Readers Committee. Though an information analyst by trade, he is a playwright at heart. He is a resident of Medford.

Committee Chairs

Liisa Ivary, Talent Wrangling Committee
Liisa was an AWE board member for many years, and has been a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival acting company for four years. She has performed with many repertory and regional theaters around the nation as well as in film and television. She holds an MFA from American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco and a BA in English from Santa Clara University. In addition to her roles at OSF, she works with Ashland High School on many theatre and playwriting activities.
